Workshop Topics
Kindergarten - Under the weather
Why do the seasons change? Why does it snow in the winter and not in the summer? Come explore the world around season and weathers, and on the way learn about different plants that thrive in each of these different seasons.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science K —
basic needs of plants and animals
adaptations of local plants and animals
weather changes
grade 1 - here comes the sun
Is the sky really blue? Is the grass the same green that everyone else sees? In this workshop you’ll be learning all about the sun, the light it emits. Seeing how light allows us to see all the different colours we see in the world and how light is an important source of energy.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science 1 —
natural and artificial sources of light
properties of light depend on their source and the objects with which they interact
grade 2 - let’s get chemical
What is considered a chemical change? How can we tell if a reaction has occurred or not. Put on your lab coats and goggles and join the team to explore the realm of chemistry. We’ll be making observations with various reaction and learning about different chemical properties
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science 2:
chemical ways of changing materials
grade 3 - breathtaking botany
The laws of nature are said to be rough and tough, but what are they? Come join us in learning about the lands around you, the types of landforms and paths and chain of energy within them. See who’s on top of the chain and what falls beneath them.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science 3 —
major local landforms
GRADE 4 - zap attack
What’s a kcal and is it some type of kilometer? No, it’s energy! Come join us in a worksop all about energy, WATT makes things move and jive. From the conversion of on energy types to another to the use of electricity to produce movements mechanically, come learn about the different types of energy found in the world around us.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science 4 —
biomes as large regions with similar environmental features
energy:
has various forms
is conserved
grade 5 - organ explorers: inside out
Curious about what makes our body tick? How does it move and what does each of our organs do? Come join us in an interactive workshop to learn all about the systems in the human body. Seeing the functions of different organs and the bigger systems they make up in our body.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science 5 —
basic structures and functions of body systems:
grade 6 - interstellar investigation
Come learn about the science and forces behind our solar system. What makes the gravitational fields, what dictates the orbit lengths of the planets and how do we get our satellites in orbit? Join this space expedition to explore the vast and unknown universe.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science 6 —
the overall scale, structure, and age of the universe
the position, motion, and components of our solar system in our galaxy
grade 7 - captivating catalysts
Is there chemistry all around us? Yes! In this workshop you will learn all about different chemical processes and reactions on our planet. Exploring the importance of chemistry in keeping our environments and ecosystems stable and healthy.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: Science 7 —
