After School Programs

What are After School Programs?

Science AL!VE's after school programs feature exciting lessons in all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). These programs can be set up at any elementary school in the Tri-Cities, Burnaby or Surrey! The programs typically run once a week over an 8 week time period*. These sessions are taught by our specially trained university instructors and feature 1-2 hours of science based curriculum! However, this is not just an extension of the school day. Our programs are designed to be interactive, hands on, and super fun for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5!

*Number of sessions can usually be adapted upon request to fit your institution's particular schedule.

Program Options Available for Your School

Science AL!VE is excited to offer 3 different after school program options for students in grades K-5! If your school is interested in setting up any of the following programs at your school, please email saadmin@sfu.ca and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have and work on setting up a program! Our After School programs run during the following terms, Fall (September - December), Winter (January - March), Spring (April - June). We set dates and times to meet the needs of your school, as well, as depending on our instructor availability.

The program options are as follows:

PROGRAM 1 - GENERAL STEM SENIOR (GRADES 3-5)

This program will introduce students in grades 3-5 to general STEM topics including chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, computer science, engineering and more! This program is designed to be 8 weeks long, however, slight modifications can be made upon request. Stay tuned for a list of topics coming soon! This program cost is $12/student/session, so for a normal 8 week program the cost would be $96.00 per student.

PROGRAM 2 - GENERAL STEM JUNIOR (GRADES K-2)

This program will introduce students in grades K-2 to general STEM topics including chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, computer science, engineering and more! While this program will be similar in terms of topics to the senior program it will be adapted to accommodate our younger scientists growing minds! This program is designed to be 8 weeks long, however, slight modifications can be made upon request. Stay tuned for a list of topics coming soon! This program cost is $12/student/session, so for a normal 8 week program the cost would be $96.00 per student.

PROGRAM 3 - INTRODUCTION TO CODING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE (GRADES 3-5)

This program is a great opportunity to introduce your senior students to the world of coding and visual programming. This program is set at 4 weeks long, however, we do suggest that a school can run two programs back to back, on being a COED program and one being a GIRLS ONLY program.

*Limited number of programs available for this option, please email saadmin@sfu.ca if interested.

*We have a limited number of laptops available for these programs, if you have access to a computer lab, please specify that in your email.
